Case Study: Affinity Trust – Management Development Programme

Affinity Trust delivers support to adults with learning disabilities and operates in many parts of England and Scotland. Their services include supported living, opportunities services, supporting people to get a job, residential care homes and outreach services. Affinity were experiencing difficulties with regards the recruitment and retention of team leaders. Within the Midlands specifically, the structure requires 30 team leaders for effective delivery and the high turnover and cost of recruitment was becoming substantial. We worked with the Divisional Director to create a management development programme which would engage and train support workers to progress within the organisation, resulting in reduced costs and increased retention amongst both team leaders and support workers alike.

What we did

  • Scoped out a programme to be submitted to board for approval
  • Created a structure that included training, buddy coaching and project work
  • Created and delivered management and leadership training modules to provide foundation skills for the six month programme
  • Created and delivered training on interview skills to help support workers perform at their best during interview

Outcome

Since completing the programme in May 2015, 4 of the 13 participants have already secured team leaders positions. All the participants felt more confident in their abilities and had greater understanding for the pressures and challenges held by those in managerial positions which have smoothed relations and built team cohesion. PS Ltd. are in discussions regarding further management programmes going forward.
